6 Nights on Beach

I have been chatting with a few co-workers lately on the best way to get value out of hotel points and we seem to have come up with similar ideas about this.

I have felt this is the best use of points for awhile but not everyone wants to be on a beach on Florida, but many of my co-workers do so here goes.

The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort - Exterior

1.Find a Beach Hotel by Starwood Preferred Guest that goes for 10,000 points per night.

We found one on each coast (Miami/Clearwater Beach) that fits the bill here.

Miami – Four Points by Sheraton Miami Beach. (as of March 1)

Four Points by Sheraton Miami Beach - Pool and Pool Sun Deck

Clearwater Beach – Sheraton Sand Key Resort.

There is also The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort if Miami is too busy for you which gets better reviews as well.

2. Get Your Starwood points with the Amex Card (20,000). Refer your spouse/travel partner(10,000). They get 20,000 more points. Make it a family account. You have at least 50,000 points between you.

Yes, it will cost you $120 each. I know many people that say “no way, I’m not paying for a credit card!!!”

But you’ll get 5 nights at 10,000 points a night plus a free sixth night (Starwood policy). Right now those hotels are going for between $400-$500 CDN a night!

It’s the first card on the link – you only have to spend $500 each on it and you have your hotel points!

Some of my more math oriented co-workers have picked up on this with the obvious comment. “So…it’s $240 total for about $2500-$3000 worth of hotel rooms on the beach in Florida for 6 nights?”

Yes.
